About Us
Mysailing was founded by me (James Pass) back in 2008. Originally I built it as a tech project so I could get my head around HTML. I had grand ambitions for the website, but life sort of got in the way and it languished on a rusty old server in a rundown port in cyber space – however the dream of building a useful website for the UK sailing community never died and early in 2011 I joined forces with Andy Bell (A very clever technical type; more of a rock climber than sailor, but you can’t have everything!) and we determined to build the vision.
My own sailing:
I have always been more of a leisure sailor than a hard core-racer, although I am fond of the occasional race and I proudly display a couple of trophies on this page (Teos Regatta – Single handed Winner & the Docklands Sailing Centre – Twilight Regatta winner). Growing up I learnt to sail on the wonderful Weir Wood Reservoir and worked my way through the RYA courses until I qualified as an instructor at the age of 17. As a result I have been fortunate enough to have sailed a wide range of boats from Tall ships in the Baltic, Yachts in the Mediterranean to Dinghies on reservoirs. These days I do more sailing from St Mawes in Cornwall out into the Carrick Roads in a Golant Gaffer.
I have always loved the way sailing can be both an adrenaline fuelled rush, going toe-to-toe with a fleet of boats in an important regatta or equally as fun it is a mini adventure, where you pack a picnic and go exploring all the inlets and harbours up the coast line. It is a uniquely varied and sociable sport that was best encapsulated in that legendry phrase “Believe me, my young friend, there is NOTHING--absolute nothing--half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. – Water Rat, Wind in the Willows“
Our aim is to make Mysailing.co.uk a genuinely helpful resource for sailors about the UK and a social place where they can swap stories, tips and advice. From our selfish perspective we also hope to make it a successful small business that we can be proud of. If you have any suggestions for the website or you would like to get in touch then do email me at james@mysailing.co.uk.
Hope you like the website!
